Rutherford, N.J. (1/30/18) The Chargers traveled to Felician University seeking a win over the Golden Falcons after falling to Jefferson on Saturday. The Chargers have had a successful season thus far and entered Tuesday's contest still in second place in the north division of the conference standings. Felician has had an average season so far and entered the game against the Chargers just under .500 and were looking to keep up in the conference standings.
The Chargers scored first to start the game off and that would be their only lead of the game as the Golden Falcons controlled the entire game. Felician jumped out to a double-digit lead halfway through the first half. Felician outscored the Chargers 43-22 in the first half and dominated the game on both ends of the floor. The Golden Falcons shot 45.7% from the field as opposed to the Chargers who shot only 25.9% as a team in the half. Dominican was outrebounded by Felician 27-15 with 10 of 27 rebounds coming on offense.
Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) led the Chargers with six points and went four for four from the free throw line in the first half. Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored five points for the Chargers and led the team in rebounds by pulling down 4 boards. The Golden Falcons went 4 for 8 from beyond the arc and three players scored in double figures in the half. Gjaimeir Stanford led all scorers in the half with 16 points while Zamir Wright and Terrell Spaulding both scored 10 points. Spaulding finished the first half with a team leading 7 rebounds.
The second half was no different for the Chargers as Felician kept pouring it on and reached their largest lead of the game of 33 points. The Chargers were outplayed from the beginning of the game and were never able to get themselves close enough to make a run to get back into the game. With the loss, the Chargers dropped to 14-7 (8-4 CACC) and still hold sole possession of second place in the conference standings despite the loss.
Grant led the Chargers with 16 points in the loss and Michael Richardson (Hackensack, N.J.) added 12 points off the bench. Three-point shooting was one of the game's biggest factors with the Chargers making only 6 of 20 attempts from three-point range for 30.0% for the game. The Golden Falcons shot 10 of 19 from beyond the arc for 52.6%. As a team, Felician shot 46.3% in the win and the Chargers only shot 30.8% from the field. Stanford led all scorers with 21 points in the win for the Golden Falcons. Wright scored 19 points and added 8 rebounds. Spaulding finished with a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards.
The Chargers finished their January schedule winning five of eight games including the big win over Bloomfield. Before they enter the final month of the regular season, the Chargers will have a week before their next game when they visit Caldwell University on Wednesday February 7th at 7:30 PM.
