MEN'S BASKETBALL EDGED BY SNHU
Manchester, N.H. (11/11/18) The Dominican College basketball team wrapped up the SNHU Tournament with a 76-74 loss to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University.
Manchester, N.H. (11/11/18) The Dominican College basketball team wrapped up the SNHU Tournament with a 76-74 loss to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University. DC, now 1-1 overall, opened the season with a weekend split with Franklin Pierce on Saturday and SNHU on Sunday.
The Chargers and the Penmen played an evenly matched first half with six lead changes. The Chargers took a 35-33 lead into halftime over SNHU.
The Chargers shot 41.9% from the field in the first half and made seven of eight free throws for 87.5% from the free throw line. Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) led DC with nine points and pulled down two rebounds in the first half. Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) and Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) each scored seven points in the first half.
Shawn Montague led all scorers in the first half by scoring 13 points. Daquaise Andrews scored 8 points in the first half. SNHU shot 42.3% from the field in the first half.
Both teams continued the play an even game in the second half. With the game tied at 74-74, the Penmen took a two-point lead when Daquaise Andrews connected on a lay-up with less than a minute to go which propelled SNHU to victory.
Grant led the Chargers with a 19-point effort while Gardener and Rodwell each finished the game with 13 points. Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) added 10 points and pulled down six rebounds. Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Chargers in rebounds with seven boards.
Shawn Montague led all scorers for the game with 27 points and contributed nine rebounds. Daquaise Andrews finished with 22 points and seven rebounds in the win. Eamonn Joyce added 14 points.
The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday, November 17th when they host Mercy College at 8:00 PM when Dominican College hosts the 7th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament.
