Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/25/18) The Dominican College men's basketball team used an 11-6 run in overtime to lift them to a 90-85 victory over the visiting Purple Knights from the University of Bridgeport in a non-conference game played this afternoon on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The win propels the Chargers to a 3-2 record on the season, while Bridgeport drops to 3-2 overall.
Dominican quickly jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes of the contest behind 10 points from junior guard Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.). DC would extend their lead to 31-17 with 6:02 left in the half, but a 21-6 run by the Purple Knights would give them the 38-37 edge at the intermission.
An Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) dunk with 11:18 left in the second half would rebuild a 10 point advantage (65-55) for the Chargers, but Bridgeport would rally and tie the game, 77-77 with two and a half minutes left in regulation. Junior Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) gave DC a two-point (79-77) lead with a layup, but two Purple Knight free throws with 1:55 to go would knot the score at 79-all and force the overtime.
DC opened the overtime period with a 4-1 run and went on to the 90-85 win.
Junior Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) led all scorers on the afternoon with 21 points and eight rebounds.
