Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/2/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 15-3 overall and 10- in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the visiting Devils of the University of the Sciences, 70-62, this afternoon in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.

Junior guard Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) led all scorers as he came off the bench to net 20 points, going 4-8 from the three-point arc.

Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) scored 12 points and two steals, while guard Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) tallied 11 points (4-7 from the floor), four assists, three steals, two blocks and three boards.

Juniors Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) and Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) each contributed nine points and seven caroms, while Grant added a game best six assists and Copman had two steals.

Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) recorded five assists, six points, two steals and three rebounds in the win.

The Devils (7-13, 4-7 CACC) were led by Brendan Crawford with 16 points.

Gardener opened the game with a three-point basket, but USciences would rally and take a 16-10 lead with 11:27 left in the first half.  The DC offense erupted by going on an 18-0 run, which included back-to-back-to-back treys, over the next 8:42 to take a 28-16 lead.  Ginyard scored his fourth three-point bucket of the half to make the score 38-21 with 39 ticks left, but Sean Simon countered with a three to make the score 38-24 at the intermission.

Dominican shot 45.2% (14-31) from the floor, 47.1% (8-17) from the arc and 40% (2-5) from the foul line in the half.

In the second half, Gardener gave the Chargers their biggest lead of the game on a layup, 49-31, with 16:08 to go.  The Devils would go on to outscore DC, 38-32, in the half, but the Chargers would bring home the win.

The Chargers will host Caldwell University this coming Tuesday night on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm as the women's and men's basketball teams will recognize Mental Health Awareness Night on Feburary 5th.
