LIGHTNING RALLY TO UPEND MEN'S BASKETBALL
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/16/19) The Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team rallied from an 11 point deficit at the break to shoot 88.9% (8-9) from the three point arc in the second stanza to upend the Dominican College Chargers, 94-83, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.

(2/16/19) The Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team rallied from an 11 point deficit at the break to shoot 88.9% (8-9) from the three point arc in the second stanza to upend the Dominican College Chargers, 94-83, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The score was tied 10-all in the first half when Dominican went on an 18-6 run to jump ahead, 28-16 with 10:15 left in the half. GBC cut the lead to five (36-31) with under four minutes to go, but DC closed out the half on a 14-8 run to head into the locker room with a 50-39 lead.
The Chargers scored the first basket of the second half on a trey from junior guard Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) to increase the lead 53-39, but the Lightning would tie the score at 61-all and then go on a 13-6 run to gain a 74-67 lead with eight and a half minutes to play. DC would cut the lead to three points (81-79) with a little over four minutes left, but a GBC 13-2 run extended their lead to double-digits and they went on to the 94-83 victory.
Junior guard Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) led five Chargers in double figures with a career high 22 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Daniel Grant tallied 12 points, a team high five assists, four rebounds and three steals, while senior Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) had 11 points and four boards.
Junior Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) grabbed an afternoon best 12 rebounds to go with 10 points and guard Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) also netted 10 points.
Mahir Johnson was the scoring leader for the Lightning with 27 points.
Dominican (17-6, 12-3 CACC) will travel to Bloomfield College this coming Tuesday night in a CACC North Division showdown. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm
