Waterbury, Conn. (2/23/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team defeated the Eagles of Post University by a score of 84-74. With the win, the Chargers improve to 18-7 (13-4 CACC) and remain in second place in the north division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Eagles fall to 9-17 (6-11) after the loss.
DC led the Eagles by as much as 17 points in the opening half. The Eagles closed the gap before the break using a 16-4 run to get back in the game. DC held a five-point lead at halftime.
Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) led DC in the opening half and made five of eight three-pointers. Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) and Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) each scored eight points. Copman recorded nine boards in the opening half to go with his eight points.
D.J. Jarrett led the way for Post in the first half with 12 points. Tyshon Rogers added 11 points for Post.
The Chargers got off to a strong start in the second half and took control of the game by extending to their largest lead of the game which was 20 points. The Eagles were able to cut the deficit in half but ran out of time in the end and fell to the Chargers by ten points.
Tavon Ginyard finished the game with a team-leading 22 points in the win. Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) finished the game with 19 points with 15 coming in the second half. Gardener also added 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Rodwell added 12 points while Jonathon Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) scored 11 points and added seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Copman recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 points.
Tyshon Rogers led the way for the Eagles with 17 points, seven rebounds, and added four steals. D.J. Jarrett scored 16 points and recorded five rebounds and three steals. Marcus Johnson added 10 points and six rebounds.
The Chargers will be back in action when they return home on Wednesday, February 27th and will host Felician University at 7:30 PM.
