Caldwell, N.J. (3/9/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team, the second seed in the North Division, will make their third consecutive appearance in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game after defeating the top seed in the South Division, Jefferson, 65-57, this afternoon in a semi-final game played on Corino Court on the campus of Caldwell University.

Dominican defeated Jefferson in the CACC semis for the second time in the last three seasons (also doing it in 2017), and avenged a loss to the Rams in last year's CACC Championship Final.

With the win, Dominican improves to 22-7 on the season and will take on the top seed from the North Division, Bloomfield College tomorrow at 12pm on Coach Corino Court.  Bloomfield edged #2S Goldey-Beacom College, 90-86 in today's opening contest.

Bloomfield and Dominican split their two-game regular-season series, with each winning on their respective home court. The Chargers outlasted the Bears, 91-84 in overtime back on Jan. 22, but Bloomfield returned the favor on Feb. 19, with a 99-90 triumph in New Jersey.

Junior guard Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead five Chargers in double figures with 14 points, to go along with a game high eight assists and six rebounds.

Guards Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) each produced 11 points.

Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) and Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) tallied 10 points a-piece with Gardener just missing a double-double with a game high nine rebounds and three steals and Copman grabbing six boards.

Junior Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) had seven rebounds.

Dominican started off the contest on a 13-4 run, capped off by back-to-back buckets from Copman and would later use a trey from Ginyard to give them a ten-point advantage, 28-18, with a little over four minutes left in the half.  Grant would net a three-point bucket of their own with 47 ticks left before the intermission to give DC their biggest lead, 34-20, and would head into the locker room with a 34-22 lead at the break.

The Chargers would not relinquish the lead in the second frame, despite the Rams cutting the deficit to 54-53 with 5:27 to play.  A 6-3 spurt by the Chargers game them some breathing room, 60-54, with under four to play and they would secure their third CACC Championship appearence with the 65-57 win.
