Manchester, N.H. (3/17/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking, 86-83, overtime loss to #6 St. Thomas Aquinas College this evening in a 2019 NCAA Division II East Regional Semi-Final contest played in Stoutenburg Gymasium.

Manchester, N.H. (3/17/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking, 86-83, overtime loss to #6 St. Thomas Aquinas College this evening in a 2019 NCAA Division II East Regional Semi-Final contest played in Stoutenburg Gymasium.

With the loss, Dominican ends their season with an overall record of 24-8.

Senior Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) and guard Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) led Dominican with 22 points a-piece, while Gardener added four rebounds.

Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) netted 14 points, three assists and three steals, while Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) tallied 12 points.

Junior Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) just missed a double-double with a game best 12 rebounds and eight points.  Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) had six rebounds.

The Spartans led 12-9 with 16:31 left in the first half when Dominican went on 10-0 run to claim a 19-12 lead with 13:14 to play.  DC would extend the lead to nine on a trey from Ginyard to make the score 32-23 with a little over five minutes to go and they would head into the locker room with the 36-30 advantage.

STAC would rally to tie the contest at 51-all with 13:00 left in regulation, but the Chargers used a 12-0 run to rebuild a 63-51 advantage with under 10 minutes to play.

The Spartans once again rallied to tie the game at 67-67 and after a Charger turnover, took 69-67 lead with 2:04 left in regulation.  A Ginyard three-point bucket with the shot clock expiring regained the lead for DC, but the Spartans countered with a putback for the lead.  Gardener layed the ball in the basket for the 72-71 edge and Rodwell followed with two free throws for the 74-71 lead with 15 seconds to go.  A game-tying three from the Spartans with six ticks left and a controversial no call under the hoop forced the overtime period.

In the overtime period, Ginyard iced two free throws to give DC a 78-75 lead, but a questionable foul call put the Spartans on the free throw line where they hit three free throws to tie the game, 78-78.  However, STAC would later use a 5-0 spurt to push ahead 85-80 and they would hang on for the 86-83 win.
