With the win, the Chargers improve to 3-0 on the season.
Jalen Burgess (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) scored a team-high 16 points and also added seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Wahaad Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Justin Copman (Cumberland, Md.) each scored 15 points. Copman recorded a double-double in the win by adding 10 rebounds.
Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) added 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, and four steals.
The Chargers shot 46.9% from the field in the first half. DC made nine of eleven free throws in the first half as a team. The Chargers were led by Copman's 12 points in the opening half.
Dominican held a lead throughout the entire game. DC held their largest lead of the game in the first half which was 13 points. The Chargers held a 41-32 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Mavericks outscored the Chargers 32-28. The Mavericks kept closing the gap on the Chargers and cut the deficit to two points with less than a minute to play.
The Chargers made key free throws at the end of the game and forced a big turnover with one second remaining to help secure the win.
For the Mavericks, Elijah Mitchell and Jayden Dewaal each scored 16 points. Mitchell added seven rebounds and three assists. Dewaal completed a double-double by adding 11 rebounds.
James Taylor Jr. added 10 points while Brandon Wilson finished with eight points.
The Chargers will be back in action on Sunday, November 21st when they host the University of Bridgeport at 5:00 PM as the 9th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament continues.
