JOHNSON RECORDS CAREER HIGH TO LEAD CHARGERS OVER GRIFFINS

Dominican's Wahaad Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers as he came off the bench to score a career high 31 points (13-19 from the floor).
The win propels the Chargers to an overall record of 16-4 and a 9-3 mark in the conference, while the Griffins fall to 11-10 overall and 8-5 in the CACC.
Jalen Burgess (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) chipped in 28 points (11-16 from the floor, 3-5 from the three point arc), five rebounds and three steals.
Guard Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) netted 11 points in reserve, while Justin Copman (Cumberland, Md.) pulled down a game-best nine boards in the win.
Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) had a team best six assists and Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) had five rebounds.
The Griiffins had four of the five starters reach double figures with Amir Warrick scoring a team best 24 points.
Dominican erased an early six point deficit in the first half by going on a 15-3 run to claim a 29-23 lead and later used an 9-4 run to pull ahead, 38-31, with under four left im the half. A Johnson layup made the score 45-40, but a Griffin jumper closed out the first half and sent the Chargers into the break with a 45-42 edge.
CHC would cut the lead ot 73-68 with 7:47 left in regulation, but the Charger countered with a 13-4 run to rebuild an 86-72 advantage and secure the victory. The biggest lead of the contest for the Chargers would be 17 points (94-77) on a Johnson layup with 1:49 on the clock.
Both teams shot well with the Chargers shooting 38-61 (62.3%) for the game and the Griffins making 34-63 (54%) of their shots.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to CACC foe, Wilmington University. Game time is scheduled for 3pm.
