MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS CACC SEASON FINALE OVER NYACK COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/26/22) The Dominican College men's basketball team concluded the regular season with a 72-71 win over the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/26/22) The Dominican College men's basketball team concluded the regular season with a 72-71 win over the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, the Chargers conclude the regular season with an overall record of 19-6 and a CACC record of 12-5.
Prior to the start of the game, the team honored seniors: #5 Jalen Burgess (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.), #15 Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) and #22 Donnell Hill (Staten Island, N.Y.).
Guard Wahaad Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Chargers with 19 points. Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) came off the bench to pull down a team best seven boards.
Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) netted 14 points off the bench. Burgess finished with 10 points, including the game-winning free throw with 1.3 seconds left in regulation, six rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Grant tallied eight points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Brandt Roundtree (Plainfield, N.J.) scored seven points and four rebounds.
Isayas Aris led the Warriors with 19 points, while D'ondre Dent added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Dominican led 35-29 at the intermission, but Nyack rallied and took a 71-66 lead with two and half minutes to play. A Johnson layup with 48 ticks to go made the score 71-68 and Roundtree followed with an and-one play to knot the score at 71-all. Burgess was going on for a layup as time was expiring when he was followed and went to the line for two free throws. After missing the first, he made the second to put DC ahead 72-71 for the lead and eventual win.
The Chargers secured the second seed in the North Division with the win and will host #3S Goldey-Beacom College this coming Tuesday evening in a CACC Quarterfinal game. Tip-off is slated for 6pm on Coach Baxter Court.
