The Lakers opened up the game with a 6-0 run that comprised the scoring for the entire first quarter and the first goal of the second quarter. The Chargers got on the board with 13:08 left in the second as Daniel Metoyer (San Diego, CA) scored his first goal of the game off the assist from Christopher Jones (Saugerties, NY) to make the score 6-1. MC went on another run, this time four straight goals to extend their lead to 10-1, but Dominican responsed with three consecutive goals off the sticks of Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB), Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) and senior Remo Montalbano (Saugerties, NY) to cut the deficit to 10-4. Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) was credited with an assist on the Pierce goal. Mercyhurst closed out the second quarter with two goals to make the score 12-4 at the intermission.
DC's offensive woke up, outscoring the Lakers in the third quarter, 5-1 to cut the deficit to 13-9. Dominican opened up the third quarter with two goals as Jones tallied his second goal of the game and Peterson netted his first, with Metoyer assisting on Jones's goal cut the deficit in half, 12-6. After a Laker goal, the Chargers closed out the quarter with three unanswered goals. Peterson used a pass from Metoyer to find the net with 4:18 left in the quarter, while Metoyer later used a pass from Jones to record his second goal of the game. Montalbano scored his second goal of the game to close out the third quarter.
Montalbano got things going in the fourth quarter as he completed the hat trick with his third goal of the game as DC converted a man-up opportunity off the assist from Jones. Mercyhurst recorded their 13th goal of the game, but Dominican used a 2-0 spurt to get within two, 14-12 with 9:43 left in regulation. Montalbano scored his fourth goal of the game, while Jones added his third with Metoyer picking up his third assist of the game.
The Lakers were able to put the game away with four unanswered goals to take an 18-12 lead with 2:27 to go. Montalbano scored the last DC goal of the game with just under two minutes remaining and Mercyhurst ended the game with two straight goals for the 20-13 final.
Montalbano led all scorers with five goals in the game.
Charger goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 16 saves in the loss.
With the loss Dominican ends their season with an overall record of 6-10 and an East Coast Conference record of 4-6.
Before the game, the team honored seniors Michael Flynn, Christopher Krutzler, Metoyer, and Montalbano.
