ASSUMPTION TOPS MEN'S LACROSSE

Hillburn, N.Y. (3/11/14)  The Assumption College men's lacrosse team topped the Dominican College Chargers, 17-5, in non-conference action played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

With the loss, Dominican falls to 0-2 on the season.

Freshman attacker Tanner Olsen (Chilliwack, Canada) led the Charger offense with two goals.

Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.), Nicholas Capano (Troy, N.Y.) and Conor Reeves (Tappan, N.Y.) each scored a goal in the game.

Attacker Theodore Wright (Copiague, N.Y.) had a team leading two assists, while Dertinger and senior Sean McGregor* (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) all recorded one assist in the loss.

Dominican scored the first goal of the contest with 12:36 left in the first quarter as Capano socred his first goal of the season off the assist from Dertinger for the 1-0 lead.  The Greyhounds then went on a 3-0 run, but Dertinger brought them within a goal with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter to make the score 3-2.  Assumption closed out the quarter with two goals for the 5-2 lead.

AC continued on their run with the first three goals of the second quarter to extend their lead to 8-2 when Olsen broke the run with his second goal of the year, off the assist from Wright with 8:36 to go before halftime.

Reeves ended first half scoring with his second goal fo the season off McGregor's pass to make the score 9-4 at the intermission.

Olsen started things off in the third quarter with his second game goall after Wright's second assist of the game to bring DC within four goals (9-5) with 12:36 left in the third quarter. 

From there the Greyhounds closed out the game with eight unanswered goals en route to the 17-5 victory.

Charger goalie Matthew Quinones* (Nanuet, N.Y.) had a season high 22 saves.
