MEN'S LACROSSE FALL IN HOME OPENER
Hillburn, N.Y. (2/26/17) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team fell in the 2017 season and home opener to the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 8-5, in a non-conference game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Freshman attacker Nick D'Alesandro (Levittown, N.Y.) netted the first goal of the season for DC as he tallied the unassisted goal with 13:15 left in the first quarter. Junior Ryan Wiberly (Setauket, N.Y.) followed less than two minutes later with a man-up goal and held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
GCU netted two goals in the second frame to pull in front 3-2 at the intermission.
The Chargers tied the game with 7:58 left in the third quarter as freshman midfielder Kevin Meaney (Franklin Square, N.Y.) netted his first collegiate goal. The Lions regained the lead two minutes later, but DC re-tied the score as Meaney connected with D'Allesandro during a many-up opportunity to make the score 4-4. A GCU goal with a little over a minute left gave the Lions the 5-4 advantage going into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Lions were on a 3-0 run in the final quarter before freshman Michael Reyes (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal off the pass from Evan Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) for the final 8-5 score.
D'Alessandro led the Chargers with two goals.
Charger goalie Matthew Sandelier (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) made 12 saves in the loss.
Dominican won 10 of the 16 faceoffs, while the Lions held the 39-29 advantage in ground balls.
DC returns to action on March 4th as they travel to Roberts Wesleyan College in their East Coast Conference (ECC) season opener.
With the loss, the Chargers fall to 0-1 on the season.
