CHARGERS FALL TO FIREBIRDS

Washington, DC (3/14/18) The Dominican College Men's Lacrosse team dropped their fourth straight game to start the 2018 season. The Chargers traveled to the University of District of Columbia for a non-conference game.
In the first quarter, both teams went scoreless through the opening minutes until the Firebirds struck first for an early 1-0 lead. Christian Hernandez (Farmingdale, NY) tied the game for the Chargers just 31 seconds later. The Firebirds opened the game up with a seven-goal run over the Chargers to extend out to an 8-1 lead. Kevin Mayer (Wantagh, NY) ended the Firebird's run with a goal with four seconds left in the quarter to make the score 8-2.
For most of the second quarter the score stayed the same until Chris Heegan (North Babylon, NY) scored the Charger's third goal. The Chargers and the Firebirds traded the next couple of goals as the second quarter winded down. Heegan and Hernandez both scored their second goal of the game. LaRon Hinton scored twice for the Firebirds in less than two minutes. Both teams headed into halftime with a score of 10-5.
Nick D'Alessandro (Levittown, N.Y.) scored the Chargers first goal in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 10-6. The Firebirds answered with two goals in less than a minute to extend out to a 12-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Firebirds scored four straight goals to start the fourth quarter to jump out to a 16-6 lead. The Charger's Michael Reyes (East Meadow, N.Y) scored the final goal of the game with four seconds to go to make the score 16-7 which eventually became the final score.
With the loss, the Chargers dropped to 0-4 on the season and with the win the Firebirds improved to 5-1. The Chargers will be back in action on Friday March 16th when they host Franklin Pierce University for their first home game of the season at 4:00 PM
