The 'Cats got on the scoreboard almost three minutes into the contest, but Dominican (2-11, 1-3 CACC) netted their first goal as senior Evan Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored a goal off the assist from Christian Hernandez (Farmingdale, N.Y.) with 6:22 left in the quarter. A WU goal with 20 seconds left regained a 2-1 advantage for the Wildcats.
The second quarter belonged to the Chargers as they scored four unanswered goals. Sophomore Nick D'Alessandro (Levittown, N.Y.) began the run with a goal off the pass from Heegan and then Heegan netted his second game goal off the dish from Ryan Wiberly (Setauket, N.Y.). Junior Kyle Souza (Stratford, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season during a man-down situation and D'Alessandro gave the Chargers a 5-2 lead with his second game goal following the pass from Jack Kiernan (East Patchogue, N.Y.).
DC continued their run with the first goal of the third quarter as midfielder Marcos Pierce (Middleburg, Va.) recorded a goal on the pass from D'Alessandro. Wilmington (4-7, 2-3 CACC) netted the next two goals, but Wiberly regained a three-goal lead (7-4) with his first goal off the pass from senior Kevin Mayer (Wantagh, N.Y.) with 11:54 left in the quarter. The 'Cats used a 3-0 quarter ending run to re-tie the game, 7-7.
With 9:29 left in regulation, Wiberly scored his second game goal to put DC up 8-7, but Wilmington went on a 2-0 run, including the game-winner with nine seconds left to earn the 9-8 win.
Heegan, Wiberly and D'Alessandro all scored two goals and one assist in the game.
Charger goalie Joseph Fabiilli (Glen Head, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the loss.
Dominican will conclude the regular season this coming Saturday night as they host Felician University in a CACC contest to be played at the Toren Valley Sports Complex.
