MEN'S SOCCER EARNS FIRST WIN AGAINST CALDWELL UNIVERSITY

Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/19/17) The Chargers men's soccer team hosted fellow CACC team Caldwell University on Tuesday in search of their first win of the year. The Chargers have been playing well of late so their sights were set on a win against the Cougars.
Both teams were in search of their first win in the conference. As for Caldwell, they entered the game with a record of 2-4-1 (0-2 CACC). The Chargers entered the game at 0-6 (0-3 CACC) and with a chance to earn a win on their home field.
The game was scoreless throughout the first half with the Chargers firing nine shots toward Cougar goalkeeper Fritz Meister, while the Cougars managed to take six shots toward Charger goalkeeper Joshua Stephens (Stony Creek, Ontario). Both goalkeepers kept the game at 0-0, Stephens made one save in the first and Meister had saved 7 Charger shots in the half.
In the second half, the Chargers continued to stay aggressive in taking shots and broke through at the 56:34 mark when Lester Gudiel (Stamford, Conn.) scored for his first of the year to give his team the 1-0 lead. The Cougars answered one minute later at the 57:34 mark when Joaquin Escudero tied the game at 1-1. Both teams played a tough second half as time ran out sending the game into overtime.
In the overtime period and on his only shot of the game, Charger Alejandro Martinez (Frisco, Texas) scored the game-winning goal, his first of the year, at the 97:34 mark with the assist from teammate Sergio Monton (Madrid, Spain) for the 2-1 win.
The Chargers earn their first overall win and first win the conference with the overtime thriller against Caldwell. With the win, the Chargers improve to 1-6 (1-3 CACC) and will look to build on their performance against Caldwell moving forward. The Chargers will continue their 2017 campaign when they host Jefferson University on Saturday.
