Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/3/17) The Chargers hosted the Clippers on Tuesday after falling to West Chester University a couple of days ago. Dominican was in search of breaking their three-game losing streak and earn their second win of the year.
From the start of the first half, the Chargers were aggressive and remained that way the entire game. Dominican fired six shots in the half at Clipper goalkeeper Jaime Gonzalez and struck first at the 13:09 mark when Fernando Gutierrez (Mexico City, Mexico) scored off of a pass from teammate Michael Nastu (Monroe, NY) to give the Chargers an early 1-0 lead. Charger goalkeeper Joshua Stephens (Stony Crreek, Ontario) made two saves to keep his team in front at halftime. Even with the lead, the Chargers still had a lot of work to do to earn the win.
In the second half, the Chargers picked up right where they left off when Gutierrez and Sergio Monton (Madrid, Spain) connected for Gutierrez's second goal of the game and his third of the year. The goal came at the 49:28 mark off of a rebound after Monton's shot was initially saved by Gonzalez and Gutierrez was right there to clean it up for his second score of the game. The game remained 2-0 for most of the second half although Concordia took 11 total shots in the half.
Stephens kept his team in front by two goals by making five saves in the half until Concordia got on the board at the 75:51 mark. The goal was a header off of a corner kick scored by Chris Vendra from teammate Freddy Nava who took the corner for the Clippers. The Clippers cut the Charger's lead in half but that was all they were able get as time ran out and the Chargers hang on to the 2-1 victory.
With the win, the Chargers now improve to 2-9 (2-5 CACC) and will be looking to build on this well-deserved win. With the loss, the Clippers fall to 2-7 (1-6 CACC).
The Chargers will have the next couple of days off before they travel to Wilmington University on Saturday. With six games left on the schedule for the Chargers, they will look to build off this win to finish the season off strong. In these last six games, the Chargers will have three more away games as well as three more home games before the season comes to an end.
