Bloomfield, N.J. (10/17/17) The Chargers traveled to Bloomfield College on Tuesday for a CACC matchup with the Bloomfield College Bears. The Chargers have dropped three in a row and were looking to go into Bloomfield and steal a win as the season quickly is coming to an end. The Bears, 10-3-1 (7-2-1 CACC), are battling for positioning atop the conference standings and with the win they stay in the hunt for a top seed for the conference playoffs. As for the Chargers who now fall to 2-13 (2-9 CACC) after the 2-0 loss, have two more games left in the season which are both at home.
It was all Bloomfield in the first half as the Bears outshot the Chargers 9-3 with four shots recorded on net. Chargers goalkeeper Joshua Stephens (Stony Creek, Ontario) made three saves in the half and early on kept his team in the game. As the end of the first half was looming, the Bear's Regsan Watkins broke the scoreless tie at the 38:56 mark to give his team a 1-0 lead. Watkins goal was his ninth of the season as he was able to get his shot passed Stephens. The Chargers were only able to generate three shots the entire half and all three were recorded not on goal.
The second half was similar to the first half as both teams went back and forth. The Chargers were outshot by the Bears 13-0 in the half as their offense went cold. Stephens made five saves in the half to give his team a chance but it was not enough. At the 82:49 mark, Watkins scored his second of the game and tenth goal of the season to give the Bears a 2-0 lead which would ultimately be the final score. Watkins had five shots total in the game and four were recorded on goal.
The Chargers will have a few days off before hosting Holy Family University on Saturday. With only two games left in the season and both games scheduled at home, the Chargers will look to end the season on a positive note.
