Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/15/18) The Dominican Charger's Men's Soccer team shut out the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday by a score of 3-0. With the win, the Chargers improve their record to 2-3 (2-1 CACC) on the season. With the loss, the Lightning drop to 1-5 (1-2 CACC).
The Chargers used two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Both first half goals were scored by Freshman forward Ewan Gray (Middlesbrough, England) and were both assisted by Jean Paul Lyons (Toronto, Ontario).
The first goal by Gray came at the 13:54 mark of the first half and at the 17:44 mark, Lyons and Gray connected again for the early 2-0 lead. The Chargers recorded 7 shots in the first half and the Lightning recorded 8.
In the second half, both teams played back and forth. Dominican extended their lead out to 3-0 at the 87:50 mark when Lester Gudiel (Stamford, Conn.) scored off of a deflection. Lyons recorded his third assist of the game and the Chargers secured the shut out victory.
Dominican finished with 13 total shots for the game and the Lightning finished with 15 total shots. Tyler Doll (St. Louis, Mo.) completed the shut out win with five saves to help keep the Lightning off the board. Suhail Bismilla recorded 6 saves in the game.
The Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday September 19th when they travel to Concordia College for a CACC match up against the Clippers at 3:00 PM.
