Bardonia, N.Y. (9/15/19) The Dominican College men's soccer team hosted the Tigers of Salem University at Albertus Magnus High School on Sunday.
DC held onto a 1-0 victory over the Tigers for their first win of the season to improve to 1-2 on the season. After the loss, the Tigers fell to 0-3-1 overall on the season.
Joshua Stephens (Stony Creek, Ontario) started in net for the Chargers and recorded five saves to keep the Tigers off the board and earn his first win and shutout of the year. Freshman Louis Felipe Ramirez started in net for the Tigers and made two saves to keep his team in the game.
The Chargers took a total of twelve shots in the game. Jean Paul Lyons (Toronto, Ontario) led the team in shots with three and recorded two on goal. Jhosep Tovar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Michael Matwieczuk (Airmont, N.Y.) each took two shots.
At 27:26 of the first half, the Chargers scored the only goal of the game. Antonio Zhu Sanchez (Alfafar Valencia, Spain) scored the goal with a header off a pass from Marco Oliveri (Whitestone, N.Y.). The game would remain 1-0 the rest of the way and the Chargers sealed the win.
The Chargers will look to win back to back games when they host Mercy College at OMM Soccer Complex at 2:00 PM.
