Caldwell, N.J. (10/4/23) The Dominican University New York men's soccer team fell in CACC action to the Cougars of Caldwell University this afternoon at the Caldwell Athletics Field in Caldwell, N.J.
The Cougars scored four unanswered goals to lock up the win. The Cougars improve to 6-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play while the Chargers fall to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the CACC.
David Arteaga (Middlesex, N.J.) started in net for the Chargers and made five saves but suffered the loss to fall to 1-5 on the season. Caldwell goalkeeper Kevin Sabadin made three saves and improved to 5-1-1.
Jacob Owen (Middlesbrough, England) opened the scoring and put Dominican on top early within the first ten minutes of the first half. Guilherme Pirana (Jundiai, Brazil) picked up the assist on the goal.
The Cougars answered by scoring four unanswered goals to go ahead 4-1 over the Chargers. Andre Vieira and Israel Dos Santos each scored in the first half to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead by halftime.
Early in the second half, Ingebrigt Braenden extended the Cougar lead to 3-1 and then Dos Santos followed with his second goal of the game for the 4-1 lead.
Murilo DeOliveira picked up two assists in the game while Alex Spencer and Andre Vieira each added one assist.
Owen scored his second goal of the game late in the second half to cut the deficit to 4-2 but CU secured the victory.
The Chargers will look to bounce back on Saturday when they return home to host the Wildcats of Wilmington University at 2:30 PM on O'Brien Field.
