Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/24/23) Forward Guilherme Pirana (Jundiai, Brazil) scored three straight goals in a span of 12 minutes to lead the Dominican University New York men's soccer team past the visiting Bears from Bloomfield College of Montclair State University, 4-1, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on O'Brien Field.
With the win Dominican improves to 3-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Senior Marouf Barry (Bronx, N.Y.) got the Chargers on the scoreboard in the 28th minute of play off the pass from Luis Guevara (Middlesex, N.J.) for the 1-0 advantage.
Bloomfield netted a goal in the 60th minute to make the score 1-1, but Pirana began his scoring run at the 71:15 mark with his first game goal off the dish from Alex Garcia Buil (Vilassar de Dalt, Spain). Thirty seconds later, he found the back of the Bloomfield net off the pass from Armindo Ferreira (Yonkers, N.Y.) to extend the lead to 3-1.
Pirana closed out the game with an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute of action for the eventual 4-1 win.
Charger keeper David Arteaga (Middlesex, N.J.) made two saves in the victory.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Chestnut Hill College on O'Brien Field. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 pm as the team will celebrate Senior Day.
