SAINTS SPOIL CHARGERS HOME OPENER
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/26/24) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team fell in non-conference action to the Saints of D'Youville University in their home opener on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Saints swept the Chargers to improve to 3-0 overall on the season while Dominican falls to 1-2 overall.
The Saints outlasted the Chargers in a close opening set 28-26 with the largest lead for the Saints at four points.
D'Youville extended their match lead to 2-0 by using a 9-4 to secure the second set after Dominican cut the deficit to four points.
The Chargers held a 10-7 in the third set but the Saints outscored Dominican 18-11 to secure the sweep.
The Chargers were led by Phinehas Wiley (Cedarburg, Wis.) who recorded 10 kills and added two block assists and one solo block for 12 points. Wiley also recorded six digs.
Gavin Tate (Appleton, Wis.) and Jacob Davidson (Bloomington, Ind.) each scored eight points with Tate recording eight kills and Davidson recorded five kills and three service aces.
Tyler Roukey (Hudson, Ohio) finished with a team-high seven digs while Luke Koster (Geneva, Ill.) added a team-high 25 assists.
The Saints were led by Shaun Vattakuzhiyil who finished with a match high 16 kills and 16 points. Zachary Zian and Ethan Robinson each had a team-high six digs while Randy Adorno had a match high 40 assists.
The Chargers will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Yeshiva University at 7:00 PM in the Hennessy Center.
