MEN'S VOLLEYBALL EXTENDS WINNING STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER BLOODHOUNDS
New York, N.Y. (2/24/24) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team extended their winning streak to five matches this afternoon after defeating host, John Jay College, 3-2, in non-conference action.
The win propels the Chargers to an overall record of 7-6, while the Bloodhounds drop to 8-3 on the season.
After dropping the first set by the score of 25-20, Dominican took the next set 25-22 to tie the match at 1-1. John Jay won the third set, 27-25 for the 2-1 match lead, but the Chargers rallied to win the fourth set, 25-19 and re-tie the match.
In the decisive fifth set, the Chargers took an early 4-1 advantage en route to the 15-11 set win and 3-2 match victory.
Outside hitter Phinehas Wiley (Cedarburg, Wis.) recorded a career high 24 kills and six digs.
Ayden Shaw (Centennial, Colo.) tallied 13 kills, a .417 attack percentage and completed the double-double with 10 digs.
Setter Luke Koster (Geneva, Ill.) dished out a career high 48 assists and seven digs, while Tommaso Falchi (Spoleto, Italy) had nine kills, a team best .615 attack percentage and six block solos.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Brooklyn College for a 7pm match on Coach Baxter Court.
