LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL DOWN SAINT ANSELM COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (3/20/11) The Dominican College softball team completed a 5-1 week with a non-conference double-header sweep of Saint Anselm College today in games played at the DC Softball Field. DC downed Saint Anselm, 9-1 in five innings in game one and took the nightcap, 4-0. With the sweep Dominican improves to 12-8 overall.

DC downed Saint Anselm, 9-1 in five innings in game one and took the nightcap, 4-0. With the sweep Dominican improves to 12-8 overall.
Game One: Saint Anselm took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but the Lady Chargers rallied for two runs in the bottom stanza to go ahead 2-1. Sophomore Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) led off the inning with a walk and catcher Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) followed with a single to center field to put two runners on. A sacrifice bunt off the bat of Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) advanced both runners and Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) hit a one-out sacrifice fly ball to left field to bring in Plante. Corrao later scored on a passed ball.
Dominican exploded for seven runs on seven hits in the fifth inning for the 9-1 victory. Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) led the inning off with a walk, followed by a bunt single by Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) and a single to center by Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) to load the bases. Plante's single through the right side scored two runs and Corrao followed with a two-run single to center field. Corrao later scored on a Saint Anselm fielding error and an RBI single through the right side by Kerscher plated the Lady Chargers sixth run of the inning. The game ended on the RBI single up-the-middle by Jeppson to score Kerscher and make the score 9-1.
Junior right handed pitcher Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) improved to 6-3 overall in the victory, allowing a run on just two hits in the victory.
Corrao and Jeppson each finished with two hits.
Game Two: The nightcap was scoreless until the fourth inning when Dominican struck for four runs on six hits. Corrao led off the inning with a single to right center field and advanced to third on the double to left field by Wassmann. A single to left field off the bat of Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) brought in Corrao and an RBI single by Kerscher scored Wassmann. Later a one-out single to left center by Martinez scored another run and Delaney drew abases loaded walk to plate the fourth Lady Charger run of the inning and made the score 4-0.
Childers picked up the shut out win (6-3), scattering just two hits and recording 11 strikeouts in the victory.
Four Lady Chargers recorded two hits in game two.
Both Dominican pitchers limited the Saint Anselm offense to just two hits each.
