PIONEERS RALLY TO DEFEAT LADY CHARGERS
Brookville, N.Y. (5/10/13) The #1 LIU-Post Pioneers rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the #8 Dominican College softball team, 7-6, this afternoon in the first game of the 2013 NCAA Division II East 1 Regional Tournament, hosted by LIU Post at the Softball Complex.

(5/10/13) The #1 LIU-Post Pioneers rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the #8 Dominican College softball team, 7-6, this afternoon in the first game of the 2013 NCAA Division II East 1 Regional Tournament, hosted by LIU Post at the Softball Complex.
LIU Post broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs on a two-run homer for the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Chargers rallied in the sixth inning with three runs to go ahead 3-2. Senior Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) doubled home Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash.) who had led off the inning by reaching base on a Pioneer error. Designated player, Kimberly Ragazzo (Lawrenceville, N.J.) brought Childers home on a double of her own, this one to right center field to tie the score at 2-2.
Junior Paige Berzak (Cypress, Calif.) later delivered a one out run-scoring single down the left field line to give DC the 3-2 edge.
The Pioneers tied the score in the bottom frame on a single up-the-middle.
DC added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning as Haukap hit an RBI single to center field and Childers followed with an RBI single to left center field. Ragazzo then hit a single through the right side to score Haukap and give the Lady Chargers a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom stanza, LIU scored four runs on five hits to lift them to the 7-6 win. The game-winning run scored on a sac fly ball hit to right field.
Childers and Ragazzo each had two hits and two RBIs in the loss, while Berzak also finished with two hits.
Ragazzo took the loss (10-6) in 1/3 innings of work, allowing one run on two hits.
Starter Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) went six plus innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits in the no decision.
Dominican (32-21) will take on the loser of the #4 New Haven/#5 Adelphi game tomorrow at 1:30 pm in an elimination game at the Softball Complex on the campus of LIU Post University.
