Brookville, N.Y. (5/12/13) The Dominican College softball team ended their 2013 season this afternoon after falling to the University of New Haven 2-0 this afternoon in an elimination game during the NCAA East 1 Regional Tournament hosted by LIU Post.
The game started yesterday afternoon and completed 1/2 of the first inning before the game was halted due to rain.
It was restarted today and New Haven struck for the only runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning. The first run came home on a DC throwing error and the second scored on a single to right field.
Dominican, the eighth seed in the regional, recorded hits in both the first and seventh stanzas and had runners in scoring position in both innings. In the seventh inning, catcher Ashley Corrao* (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a one out single to left field. A fielding error moved her to second and she went to third on a fly ball. Senior Kathryn Coles* (Farmville, Va.) smacked the ball but it went directly to the right fielder on a line drive for the final out of the game.
Senior Julie Plante* (Swansea, Mass.) had the other hit for the Lady Chargers as she led off the game with a single to left field.
Fellow senior Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) suffered the loss (16-10) allowing two runs (neither earned) on four hits.
The University of New Haven, seeded fourth in the regional, advanced to a second elimination game where they defeated the top-seeded LIU Post Pioneers, 5-4, to move on to the East 1 Regional Championship game where they will take on #5 Adelphi University tomorrow.
DC ends the season with an overall record of 32-22.
