THREE LADY CHARGERS NAMED TO DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION TEAMS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (5/15/13) Three players from the Dominican College softball team were named to the 2013 NCAA Division II Softball East Region Team as was announced today. Kimberly Ragazzo was selected to the the First Team, while Julie Plante* and Delaney Childers earned Second Team accolades.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (5/15/13) Three players from the Dominican College softball team were named to the 2013 NCAA Division II Softball East Region Team as was announced today. Kimberly Ragazzo was selected to the the First Team, while Julie Plante* and Delaney Childers earned Second Team accolades.
Ragazzo, a freshman infielder and pitcher from Lawrenceville, N.J., had an outstanding season for the Lady Chargers as she outpaced the conference in slugging percentage, total bases, runs batted in, home runs and runs scored. She was third in the conference in walks and ninth in batting average, hits and doubles. In league play, Ragazzo hit .453 (5th) with a .860 slugging percentage (2nd), 9 homeruns (1st) and 36 RBI (1st). She was recently named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year and to the First Team and to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region East First Team.
Plante, a senior outfielder from Swansea, Mass.,makes her second straight appearance on the NFCA All-East Region Second Team. She played in every game this season and broke the school's all-time hit record this year. She ranked third in the conference in hits and RBIs, fourth in doubles, fifth in runs scored and seventh in batting average and home runs. Recently, Plante was named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) First Team for the third time in her career and earned her second consecutive Capital One Academic All-District Softball First Team for District I in NCAA Division II honors.
Childers, a senior outfielder/pitcher who hails from Johnstown, Ohio, earns her fourth Daktronics All-Region Team honors and makes her third appearance on the Second Team. In 2012 she was named to the First Team and was the Pitcher of the Year. Childers recently made her fourth All-CACC appearance and her third straight First Team accolades. She ranked fourth in the CACC in home runs, seventh in runs scored, ninth in slugging percentage, 12th in hits and is in the top 25 in batting average. On the mound, she led the conference in games started, ranked second in shut outs, innings pitched, innings pitched and was third in wins.
