LEWIS UNIVERSITY SWEEPS LADY CHARGERS
Clermont, Fla. (3/4/14) The Lewis University Flyers swept the Dominican College softball team on opening day for the Lady Chargers at the Dot Richardson Spring Games held yesterday in Clermont, Florida. With the losses, the Lady Chargers are now 0-2 overall on the season.

Clermont, Fla. (3/4/14) The Lewis University Flyers swept the Dominican College softball team on opening day for the Lady Chargers at the Dot Richardson Spring Games held yesterday in Clermont, Florida. With the losses, the Lady Chargers are now 0-2 overall on the season.
Game One: The Flyers scored in sixth of the seven innings in the 9-1 victory and limited the Lady Chargers to just three hits.
DC scored their lone run of the contest in the bottom half of the sixth inning as centerfielder Brianna Arends (Raritan, N.J.) led off the inning with a single and moved to second on the ground out by Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.). Sophomore third basemen Kimberly Ragazzo* (Lawrenceville, N.J.) followed with an RBI triple to make the score 8-1.
Collins had the other hit for DC with a double in the bottom of the first inning.
Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) suffered the complete game loss (0-1).
Game Two: In the nightcap, the Flyers put three runs on the board in the first for the 3-0 advantage.
Dominican countered with a two-run fourth inning as Hogan hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly ball to left field to plate Collins, who led off the inning with a double, and right fielder Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) later came through with an RBI single.
The Lady Chargers tied the score in their half of the sixth inning as senior Paige Berzak* (Cypress, Calif.) singled home Collins, who led off the inning with a triple.
Lewis regained a 6-3 lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning. DC added two runs in the seventh on RBI singles off the bats of Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) and Arends for the final 6-5 score.
Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) took the loss (0-1) in five innings of work, allowing four runs on seven hits.
Ragazzo came in for the last inning and allowed two runs on three hits.
The Lady Chargers are back in action at the Dot Richardson games this evening as they take on the College of Saint Rose in a doubl-header.
