SOFTBALL SWEPT BY FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE
Lakeland, Fla. (3/5/14) The Dominican College softball team fell to 1-5 on the season after being swept by Florida Southern College in a non-conference double-header held at Barnett Field. The Moccasins won the first game, 10-2 in six innings and won the night cap in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 5-4 victory.

Lakeland, Fla. (3/5/14) The Dominican College softball team fell to 1-5 on the season after being swept by Florida Southern College in a non-conference double-header held at Barnett Field. The Moccasins won the first game, 10-2 in six innings and won the night cap in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 5-4 victory.
Game One: FSC scored two runs in the second and tacked on six more in the third to jump ahead 8-0. The Lady Chargers put two runs on the board in the fourth when Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) hit an RBI double to left center field and Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) hit a two out RBI single to make the score 8-2.
The Moccasins added a run in the fifth and sixth for the final 10-2 score.
Left-handed pitcher Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) took the loss (0-2) in 2 2/3 innings of work, allowing eight runs on nine hits.
Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.), Kimberly Ragazzo* (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and Hogan all had two hits a-piece in the loss.
Game Two: The Moccasins held a 3-0 lead after four innings when Dominican scored two runs in the top half of the fifth as Ragazzo and Paige Berzak* (Cypress, Calif.) recorded back-to-back RBI singles to make the score 3-2.
FSC added a run in the bottom stanza to go ahead by two runs, but DC tied the score in the top of the seventh as Hogan delivered a key two out two-run single up-the-middle to knot the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Moccasin had the bases loaded with not outs, when Berzak fielded an infield ground ball and turned the double-play by throwing home and catcher Haukap threw back to her to put runners on second and third with two outs. FSC followed with a game winning infield single to shortstop for the 5-4 win.
Ragazzo took the loss (1-1) in 6 2/3 innings of work, allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits.
The Lady Chargers are back in action tomorrow as they take on the University of Tampa.
