SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO DAY TWO OF CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lakewood, N.J. (5/2/14) The Dominican College softball team, the sixth-seed, advanced to day two of the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Championships after posting a 1-1 record in action today. DC fell to #3 Post University, 3-2, but rebounded to win an elimination game against #7 Philadelphia University, 5-1.

(5/2/14) The Dominican College softball team, the sixth-seed, advanced to day two of the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Championships after posting a 1-1 record in action today. DC fell to #3 Post University, 3-2, but rebounded to win an elimination game against #7 Philadelphia University, 5-1.
With the split, Dominican now stands at 19-26 overall and will take on the loser of #1 Caldwell College/#5 Wilmington University tomorrow at 11am at Georgian Court University, host of the 2014 CACC Softball Championships.
Game One: The Eagles jumped ahead early with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first for the 3-0 lead.
DC got on the board in the third stanza on the solo home run off the bat of first basemen Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) to cut the deficit to 3-1.
In the top of the seventh, right fielder and All-CACC First Team selection, Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) hit a bases-loaded single to center field to plate a run. Dominican had the game tying run in scoring position with one out, but was unable to bring her home in the 3-2 loss.
Kimberly Ragazzo* (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) led the Lady Chargers with two hits a-piece.
Ragazzo took the loss (9-9) in 3 2/3 innings of work, allowing three runs on eight hits.
Game Two: DC rebounded in game two, scoring runs in the first four innings in their 5-1 victory over the Rams of Philadelphia University.
In the first inning, Collins hit an RBI double and designated player Paige Berzak (Cypress, Calif.) later hit a run-scoring single for the 201 advantage.
Dominican added a run in the second on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch in the third inning for the 4-1 lead.
DC scored the last run of the game in the fourth inning as Ragazzo hit a RBI double for the final 5-1 score.
Shorstop Lisa Bouffard (Wallkill, N.Y.) had two hits in the win.
Hogan got the complete game victory, allowing one run (none earned) on two hits.
