Clermont, Fla. (3/11/15)  The Dominican College softball team opened up the 2015 season with a non-conference split with Hillsdale College at the National Training Center Games. Hillsdale rallied to win game one, 6-5 while Dominican took the second game, 8-5.

With the split, Dominican is now 1-1 on the season.

Game One:  The game was scoreless until Hillsdale struck for a run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings for the 2-0 lead.  DC charged back with five runs on two hits in the fifth stanza to claim a 5-2 advantage.  Junior Brianna Arends (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled home two runs and Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) later followed with a bases clearing triple to give her three RBIs.

HC got a run back in the sixth and scored two more in the bottom of the seventh to rally forhte 6-5 win.

Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) suffered the loss in five innings of work, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and four strikeouts.

Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) had two hits.

Game Two: Dominican jumped ahead with four runs in the bottom of the first as Arends and Collins once again came through with their bats on a RBI double and a two-run triple for the 3-0 score.  Later with one out, Shannon Truppi (Little Falls, N.J.) reached on a fielding error by the left fielder which allowed a run to score.

Hillsdale got a run on the scoreboard in the fourth, but the Lady Chargers countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on the RBI single by Schwed to increase the lead to 5-1.

DC added two more runs in the fifth on run producing singles from Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshman Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) to go up 7-1.

HC added two runs in the sixth, while Truppi singled home a run in the DC half of the inning for a 8-3 score.  Hillsdale scored two runs in the seventh for the final 8-5 Lady Charger victory.

Dove, Collins and Schwed all collected two hits in the win.

Dove recorded her first collegiate complete game win, allowing five runs on seven hits and three strikeouts.
