SOFTBALL ENDS TRIP DOWN SOUTH WITH SPLIT

Clermont, Fla. (3/15/15)  The Dominican College softball team completed their trip down south with a split this afternoon at the National Training Center Games.  The Lady Chargers topped Pace University, 4-3 in eight innings and fell to Augustana College, 11-1 in six innings.

Following the trip, Dominican now stands at 2-8 on the season.

Game One:  The game was scorless until the bottom of the third when the Setters put three runs on the board to take a 3-0 lead. 

The Lady Chargers rallied with a three run sixth inning as Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) hit an RBI single up-the-middle and catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) followed with a two-run triple down the right field line to knot the score at 3-3.

In the top of the eigth inning and two outs, Haukap picked up her third RBI of the game with a key single down the right field line to give Dominican the 4-3 lead.  In the bottom stanza, the Setters had the tying run on third base, but hurler Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) got the next batter to ground out and give DC the 4-3 win.

Haukap and designated player Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) each had two hits, while Haukap had a game leading three RBIs.

Maska got the complete game victory (1-1), allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits

Game Two:  In the finale against Augustana, the Auggies quickly took a 2-0 lead in the first and tacked on three more runs in the third four a 5-0 advantage.

Down 6-0 after four and half innings, the Lady Chargers scored their only run of the game in the fifth on the RBI double to left field from Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.).  AC ended the game in the top of the sixth by producing six runs for the 11-1 win.

Second basemen MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.) had two hits for the lady Chargers, while Schwed, Brianna Arends (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) all had a hit in the loss.

Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) suffered the loss in three innings of work, allowing five runs on four hits and three strikeouts.  Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) pitched the final three, allowing six runs on eight hits and two strikeouts.
