SOFTBALL EARNS TWO WINS AGAINST WILDCATS

New Castle, Del. (3/22/15)  The Dominican College softball team earned two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victories this afternoon after sweeping Wilmington University, 8-6 and 4-2, in games played at Asbury Field.

With the wins, Dominican improves to 6-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Game One:  Dominican used a two-run single off the bat of CACC Co-Rookie of the Week, Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) to take the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Wildcat's got the two runs back in the bottom half of the second inning and the game would remained tied until the Lady Chargers charged ahead with three runs in the fourth inning.  Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) recorded back-to-back RBI singles and Haukap would later score on a passed ball to regain the 5-2 DC lead.

DC added two more runs in the fifth as Haukap singled home a run and a 'Cat fielding error allowed another run to score on the play to make the score 7-3.  WU would get a run back in their half of the inning to pull within three runs, 7-4.

In the Lady Charger half of the sixth, sophomore Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) produced a single to center field to bring home a run and rebuild a four run lead, 8-4.  Wilmington plated runs in the sixth and seventh inning for the final 8-6 Lady Charger victory.

Haukap went 4-5 with two RBIs, while Regan also had two RBIs.

Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) recorded two hits.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) picked up the complete game victory (3-1), allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits.

Game Two:  The night cap was scoreless until the fourth stanza when an infield single from MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.) brought home a run to put Dominican out infront, 1-0.  The 'Cats answered in the bottom of the inning with a run to tie the game at 1-1.

An infield error by Wilmington regained a 2-1 advantage for the Lady Chargers in the sixth, but once again WU rallied with a run in their half of the inning to re-tie the score at 2-2.

Dominican came away with the win in the seventh as left fielder Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) hit a big two out two-run double down the left field run to give DC the 4-2 lead.  WU had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but pitcher Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) recorded back-to-back outs for the 4-2 win.

Regan, Gonzalez and Wise all had two hits in the win.

Dove improved to 3-3 on the year in the complete game victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits.

The Lady Chargers are slated to be in action on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Caldwell University.
