SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH POST UNIVERSITY

Waterbury, Conn. (3/27/15)  The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with Post University in games played this afternoon at Lamoy Field.  With the split, the Lady Chargers are now 7-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Game One:  The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added two more runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 advantage.

The Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning as CACC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Week, Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to left center field.

Post regained a three-run lead with two runs in the top of the seventh and Dominican scored the final run of the game in the bottom stanza on the RBI ground out off the bat of catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) for the final 5-2 score.

Regan finished with two hits for the Lady Chargers.

Hurler Jenna Maska (Wrentham, Mass.) took the complete game loss (3-2), allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and one strikeout.

Game Two:  The Lady Chargers rebounded in the night cap as they scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of a Post fielding error with two outs for the 1-0 lead.

The Eagles rallied with a run in the second, but DC countered with a run in their turn at the plate as Haukap hit a run scoring two out double to regain a 2-1 lead.

Dominican added a run in the fifth, once again taking advantage of an Eagle fielding error to go up 3-1.  Post rallied with two runs in the seventh inning on a one out two-run home run to force extra innings.

In the bottom of the eight with runners on second and third with one out, Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) reached base on an error which allowed the winning run to score and give DC the 4-3 victory.

Haukap went 3-4 with an RBI in the win, while Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) and Regan finished with two hits a-piece.

Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) picked up the win (1-4) in 2/3 innings of work, recording two strikeouts.

Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) got the no decision in 7 1/3 innings of work, allowing three runs on four hits and five strikeouts.
