LADY CHARGERS GET ONE AGAINST QUEENS COLLEGE

Flushing, N.Y. (4/2/15)  The Dominican College softball team defeated the Queens College Knights 5-2 in the night cap of a non-conference double-header, but fell in the opening game, 3-2, this afternoon in games played on the softball field in Flushing.  With the split, Dominican is now 11-11 on the season.

Game One:  The game was scoreless untio the top of the third inning when the Lady Chargers put two runs on the board when catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) hit a one out RBI triple to right field to plate MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.).  Two batters later, Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) delivered a two out run-scoring single to left field for the 2-0 lead.

The Knights tied the game in the fourth stanza with two runs and scored the game-winner in the fifth inning for the 3-2 win.

Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) took the loss in 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and five strikeouts.

Starter Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three strikeouts.

Game Two:  In the night cap, DC was the first team to put runs on the board as Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) hit a two run double to left field in the top of the first inning for the 2-0 advantage.

Dominican added a run in the third on a solo home run off the bat of Collins and tacked on another run in the fourth inning as centerfielder Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) produced an RBI single to center field to increase the lead to 4-0.

QC scored two runs in the their half of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2, but Dominican regained a three-run lead in the seventh on the RBI ground out from Brianna Arends* (Raritan, N.J.) for the eventual 5-2 victory.

Schwed, Collins and Gonzalez all had two hits in the win, with Gonzalez finishing with two RBIs.

Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) picked up the complete game victory, allowing two runs on two hits and five strikeouts.
