SOFTBALL WINS GAME TWO AGAINST MOLLOY COLEGE

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/6/15)  The Dominican College softball team won the second game of a non-conference double-header against Molloy College in games played this afternoon at the DC Softball Field.  Dominican fell in the opener, 8-5, but rallied to take the night cap, 8-2.

Game One:  MC scored two runs in the top of the first for the early 2-0 advantage and added two more in the third for a 4-0 lead.  Dominican came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when second basemen Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) and left fielder Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) began the inning with back-to-back home runs.  Later with two outs, Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) delivered a two out RBI single up-the-middle to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Lions countered with a four run top of the fifth to increase their lead to 8-3, but an RBI single down the right field line off the bat of Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) made the score 8-4.  The Lady Chargers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh as Regan hit a second run-scoring single down the right field line.  Shiebler was the tying run at the plate and blasted a ball which was over the fence, but a nice catch by the Lion left fielder with her arm over the fence secured the 8-5 Molloy victory.

Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) took the loss (6-4) in 4 1/3 innings of work, allowing four runs on six hits.

Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) came in for the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits.

Schwed went 3-4 with three runs scored, while Collins, Shiebler and Regan recorded two hits a-piece.

Game Two:   Dominican struck first in the finale with a run in the bottom of the first as Regan singled up-the-middle to bring home a run and added a run in the second on the sacrifice fly ball to left field off the bat of catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) to make the score 2-0.

The Lady Chargers tacked on four more runs in the third as a Lion error allowed the first run of the stanza to come home and Shiebler later came in to pinch hit and had an RBI ground out.  Third basemen Arianna Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.)  hit a two out two-run single to center field for a 6-0 Lady Charger advantage.

Dominican added two more runs in the sixth on the RBI ground out by Collins and taking advantage of a MC fielding error which allowed the eighth DC run of the game to come home.  Molloy scored a run in the top of the seventh for the final 8-2 Dominican victory.

Regan collected three hits in the game, while Trembone, Curatolo and Collins all had two hits in the win.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) got the complete game victory (5-4), allowing two runs on seven hits and four strikeouts.

With the split, Dominican is now 12-12 on the season.
