SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

Bloomfield, N.J. (4/8/15)  The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Bloomfield College, in games played this afternoon at Clarks Pond South.  DC took the first game 4-3 and won the night cap 8-1.

With the sweep, Dominican improves to 14-12 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Game One:  The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when the Lady Charger offense put four runs on the board.  Freshman shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit her first grand slam of her collegiate career over the left field fence to put DC up 4-0.

The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the inning and added two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final 4-3 score.

Designated player Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) went 2-3 with a run scored and Regan finished with four RBIs.

Freshman pitcher Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) got the win (7-4) in 6 1/3 innings of work, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and four strikeouts.

Game Two:  In the second game, DC scored a run in the top of the second as Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) hit an RBI ground out to second base.

The Lady Chargers tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning to increase the lead to 5-0.  The first run of the stanza scored on a fielding error and Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) reached base on a second fielding error which allowed another run to come home.

Catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) produced an RBI single down the left field line and center fielder Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) followed with a run-scoring infield single to plate the fourth run.

Dominican increased the lead to 6-0 in the sixth as Schwed picked up her second RBI of the game with a two out double to center field.

Two more runs in the top of the seventh gave Dominican the 8-0 lead.  Brianna Arends* (Raritan, N.J.) had an RBi single to center field and second basemen MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.) later followed with an RBI single up-the-middle.  Bloomfield Bears got a run on the board in the bottom of the seventh for the final 8-1 score.

Wise finished the game with three hits, while Haukap, Arends and Schwed all had two hits a-piece in the win.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) got the win to improve to 6-4 on the season in the complete game, allowing one run on eight hits and six strikeouts.
