LADY CHARGERS SHUT OUT CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/11/15)  The Dominican College softball team improved to 16-12 overall and 8-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) player after sweeping the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 2-0 and 6-0 this afternoon in games played at the DC Softball Field.

Game One:  The two runs of the contest were scored on home runs in the 2-0 victory.  Designated player Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) broke the scoreless tie with a blast over the left field fence in the second inning for the 1-0 advantage and record her first collegiate home run.

An inning later, third basemen Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit her first collegiate home run over the centerfield fence to give DC the 2-0 lead and eventual victory.

Freshman hurler Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) picked up the complete game shut out victory (8-4), scattering just two hits and striking out five in the win.

Game Two: The Lady Charger offense scored all six runs in the first four innings in the night cap victory.  The first run scored on a Griffin error and the second game home on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas.)

In the second stanza, catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) hit a single up-the-middle to plate another run and first basemen Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) delivered a two-run single to left field in the third to make the score 5-0.

Right fielder Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) had a two out RBI single through the right side in the fourth for the 6-0 lead and win.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) improved to 7-3 in the shut out, complete game win.  She recorded a career high nine strikeouts and allowed only one hit.

Haukap finished 3-4 in the game with two runs scored, while Collins and Truppi each had two hits with Truppi adding two RBIs.

Dominican is slated to be in action tomorrow as they travel to Philadelphia University.
