OFFENSE COMES ALIVE IN GAME TWO VICTORY OVER PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY

Philadelphia, Pa, (4/12/15)  The Dominican College softball team's offense exploded for 11 runs in an 11-5 game two victory over host, Philadelphia University this afternoon in games played at the Softball Field.  The Rams won the opening game, 5-1.

With the split the Lady Chargers now stand at 17-13 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

Game One:  The Rams led 1-0 after two innings of play when the Lady Chargers put a run on the board on the RBI single through the right side off the bat of center fielder Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) to tie the score at 1-1.

Philadelphia answered with three runs in the fourth inning and added one more in the fifth en route to the 5-1 win.

Schwed and designated player Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) collected two hits a-piece in the loss.

Lady Charger starter Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) suffered the loss (8-5) in four innings of work, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and three strikeouts.

Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) came in to pitch the last two innings and allowed one run on two hits and one strikeout.

Game Two:  Philadelphia struck first again in the night cap with a two run second inning, but DC cut it to 2-1 in the third as shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) delivered a two out run-scoring double to center field.

The Dominican offense came alive in the fourth inning as the plated eight runs to claim a 9-2 lead.  Catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) go things started with a two out RBI single to left center field and Schwed followed with a two-run triple to center.  Schwed then scored on a wild pitch.

Three batters later, left fielder Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) hit a two-run triple to left center field and Shiebler came in as a pinch hitter and blasted a ball over the left field fence to bring home two runs and hit her second home run in two days to put the Lady Chargers ahead 9-2.

Philadelphia got two runs back in the bottom stanza, but the DC offense got the runs back in the top of the fifth as Schwed had a one out RBI triple to center field and two batters later Regan had a two out RBI double to center field for the 11-4 advantage.  Philadelphia scored a run bottom of the seventh for the final 11-5 score.

Schwed went 3-5 in the game with three runs scored and three RBIs.

Regan and Shiebler had two hits and two RBIs a-piece, while Gonzalez also contributed two RBIs in the win.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Ohio) got the complete game victory (8-4), allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and five strikeouts.
