LADY CHARGERS SWEEP GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY

Lakewood, N.J. (4/15/15)  The Dominican College softball team improved to 21-13 overall and 12-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping host, Georgian Court University, 6-1 and 6-2 in games played this afternoon. 

Game One:  A two out run-scoring double to center field off the bat of shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the scoring going in the opening contest and put DC ahead 1-0.  GCU came right back with a run in the bottom stanza and the score would remained tied until the fourth when the Lady Chargers struck for two runs.

In the fourth, catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) hit an RBI infield single and center fielder Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice which allowed the third Lady Charger run to score and regain the 3-1 lead.

Dominican added to the lead in the fifth as designated hitter Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) had a sacrifice RBI ground out to extend the lead to 4-1.  The Lady Chargers tacked on two more runs in the seventh as Shiebler reached on an error which allowed a run to score and first basemen Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) followed with a run scoring single to center field for the 6-1 score.

Regan went 3-4 in the game, while Schwed and Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) each had two hits in the win.

Rookie Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) picked up the victory to improve to 9-5 on the season.  In 6 2/3 innings of work, she allowed one run on seven hits and seven strikeouts.  Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) came in to record the final out of the game.

Game Two: Dominican scored runs in the first two stanzas of the night cap to take a 4-0 lead.  In the first, Collins singled through the left side to plate a run and in the second Schwed produced a two-run double to right center field.  Collins followed by reaching base on a Lion error which allowed the fourth DC run to come home.

Regan made the score 5-0 in the fourth with a two out RBI single through the left side and in the sixth Collins picked up her second RBI of the game with an ground out and increase the lead to 6-0.

GCU got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final 6-2 victory.

Schwed went 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Collins also had two RBIs, while Truppi collected two hits in the win.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) went the distance in the win (9-3) and allowed two runs (none earned) on four hits and three strikeouts.
