SETTERS SWEEP LADY CHARGERS

Briarcliff, N.Y. (4/24/15)  The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II East Softball Rankings, suffered a non-conference sweep to the Setters of Pace University in games played today at Pace Field.

The Setters won the opening game by a score of 10-2 in five innings and won the second by the same score in six innings.

Game One:  Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning as third basemen Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.) laid down a squeeze bunt to bring home a run and catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) followed with a sacrifice fly ball to to left field to score MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.)

Pace used back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead and added a third home run to claim a 6-2 advantage.  The team added four runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 10-2 win.

Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) suffered the loss (11-6) in 2 2/3 innings of work, allowing four runs on six hits and two strikeouts.

Game Two:  Pace led 6-0 after two innings, when the Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard with a two-run top of the third.  First basemen Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) recorded her first home run of 2015 as she hit a two-run shot over the left field fence.  A four-run sixth for the Setters led them to the 10-2 victory.

Jenna Maska (Wrentham, Mass.) took the loss (12-5), allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and three strikeouts.

With the losses, Dominican now stands at 25-17 on the season.

DC is scheduled to be in action tomorrow afternoon as they host Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Goldey-Beacom College.  First pitch is slated for 1pm at the DC Softball Field.
