LONG BALL LEADS LADY CHARGERS OVER GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/25/15)  The #8 Dominican College softball squad hit three home runs today to help lead them past the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 11-1 and 9-1, today in games played at the DC Softball Field.  With the sweep, the Lady Chargers improve to 27-15 overall and 19-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

Game One: DC scored 11 runs on 11 hits in the 11-1 5 inning victory.

The Lady Chargers were trailing 1-0 after the top of the first but freshman shortstop, Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) lifted them to a 2-1 advantage as she hit her team leading fifth home run of the season over the left field fence.

DC tacked on five more runs in the second inning, taking advantage of two GBC errors.  Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.), Regan, Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) and senior Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) all recorded RBIs in the inning.

A two run third inning extended the lead to 9-1 as center fielder Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) singled up-the-middle to bring home a run and a Lightning fielding error on the play allowed a second run to score.

In the bottom of the fourth, Brianna Arends* (Staten Island, N.Y.) was hit b-a-pitch with the bases loaded and Haukap later drew a bases loaded walk to give DC the 11-1 lead and eventual win.

Schwed collected three hits in the game, while Regan finished with three RBIs.

Starter Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) picked up the win (12-6) in three innings of work, allowing one run on three hits and five strikeouts.  Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) game in for the final two innings, striking out two and allowing one hit.

Game Two:  Truppi got the scoring going in the game two with an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the first inning.

Dominican added two runs in the second on consecutive run-scoring singles from Haukap and Schwed.

The Lightning got on the board with a run in the top of the third, but the Lady Chargers charged ahead with a five-run bottom frame to take a 7-1 lead.  Haukap blasted a three-run home run to right field and later Truppi delievered a one out RBI single up-the-middle.  Designated player Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) had an RBI single through the right side.

DC won the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Schwed hit a two out solo home run to right center for the final 9-1 victory.

Schwed went 4-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Truppi finished 3-3 with two RBIs, while Haukap had two hits and a game best four RBIs.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) got the complete game victory, allowing one run on four hits and one strike out to improve to 13-5 on the season.

Dominican will conclude the regular season tomorrow afternoon as they host conference opponent, Felician College.  First pitch is set for 12pm for Senior Day at the DC Softball Field.
