BURBRIDGE GETS 300TH CAREER WIN ON SENIOR DAY

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/26/15)  The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Golden Falcons of Felician College, 6-4 and 2-1, this afternoon on Senior Day at the DC Softball Field.  With the game two victory, head coach Joe Burbridge recorded his 300th career coaching win.

Following the victories, the team honored the lone senior, Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas).

Game One:  DC took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as center fielder Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) belted a solo home run over the centert field fence and designated player Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) delivered a two out RBI single through the left side.

Felician countered with back-to-back-to-back home runs on the first three batters of the frame to go ahead 3-2 in the second, but the Lady Chargers charged right back into the game with a four-run second inning.

In the second, catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) had a run-scoring single through the right side and Schwed followed with an RBI double down the right field line.  A squeeze bunt from first basemen Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) brought home the third run and Shiebler recorded her second RBI of the game with an RBI ground out.

A Golden Falcon run in the fourth on the second home run of the game from Mercedes Montanez made the score 6-4.

Reliever Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) got the win in 5 2/3 innings of work, allowing one run on three hits and five strikeouts.

Game Two:  In the night cap, FC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as the runner stole home.  Dominican came back to tie the score in the third stanza as Haukap produced an RBI double to center field.

The game-winning run came in the bottom of the sixth when Truppi singled to center field and pinch runner Mary Curatolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) came in to score for the 2-1 lead and eventual win.

Larsen picked up the game two victory in five innings of relief, scattering just three hits and recording a career high seven strikeouts.

With the sweep, Dominican concludes the regular season with an overall record of 29-17 and a 21-5 CACC record.

 The game two victory marked the 300th career coaching victory for Burbridge.  Currently in his eighth season at the helm of the Lady Chargers, he now has 300 career wins (261 at Dominican College) and 170 losses (157 DC).  In 2007, he was began his collegiate coaching career at the helm of Adelphi University where he posted a 39-13 record.
