LADY CHARGERS SPLIT ON DAY ONE OF CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lakewood, N.J. (4/30/15)  The Dominican College softball team split on day one of the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships, hosted by Georgian Court University.  DC, the second seed in the tournament, defeated #7 Bloomfield College 6-2 in their first game, but fell to #3 Wilmington University, 2-3.

Game One: The Lady Chargers wasted no time as they scored two runs in the first on an error and an RBI ground out from Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) for the 2-0 advantage.

DC added to the lead in the second stanza on a single to center field from catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.).  Bloomfield put two runs on the board in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Lady Chargers regained a two-run lead in the bottom half of the inning on a triple to right field off the bat of MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.) to a 4-2 lead.

Dominican added two more runs in the fifth on a single by Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.) and a double from Haukap for the final 6-2 score.

Haukap had three hits and two RBIs.

Wise, Trembone and Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) all collected two hits in the win.

Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) got the complete game victory (5-5), allowing two runs (none earned) on seven hits and five strikeouts.

Game Two:  The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when the 'Cats put two runs on the score board.  Dominican countered in the bottom frame with two runs on the run-scoring single through the right side off the bat of Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) and the RBI double to left-center field from Truppi.

Wilmington scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning on a double to left-center.

Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) suffered the loss (13-6) in 2/3 inning of relief, allowing one run on two hits.

Haukap, Schwed, Truppi and Wise all had two hits each in the loss.

Dominican will take on #4 Post University tomorrow at 11am on field one at Georgian Court University.
