LADY CHARGERS WIN THREE GAMES TO ADVANCE TO CACC CHAMPIONSHIP

Lakewood, N.J. (5/1/15)  The Dominican College softball team won three games on day two of the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Championships to advance to the finals which will be held tomorrow afternoon.  DC, the second seed, eliminated Post University, Bloomfield College and Wilmington University and will take on the top seed, Caldwell University tomorrow at Georgian Court University.

Game One: In their first elimination game of the day, the Lady Chargers squared off against #4 Post University and game away with the 4-2 victory.  DC got on the board in the first inning on an infield single from CACC Rookie of the Year, Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and added a run in the second on an Eagle fielding error to take a 2-0 advantage.

Dominican scored their final two runs in the third inning as second basemen MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to right center field and Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached on an error which allowed a run to score.  Post scored two runs in the top of the sixth for the final 4-2 victory.

Wise and Brianna Arends (Raritan, N.J.) each had two hits in the win.

Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) improved to 6-6 with the complete game victory, allowing two runs on six hits and five strikeouts.

Game Two:  Facing their second elimination game of the day, the Lady Chargers downed #7 Bloomfield College, 6-0.  DC put two runs on the board in the third on the sacrific out by catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) and a run-scoring double to center field off the bat of Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.).

The Lady Chargers added three more runs in the fifth as Haukap had another sacrifice out, followed by a RBI single through the right side from Schwed.  A single to left field from Regan brought home the fifth DC run of the game.  An error in the sixth inning allowed the final run of the game to come home and give Dominican the win.

Haukap and Schwed both collected two hits.

Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) picked up the complete game shut out win (13-6), scattering just three hits and striking out six batters.

Game Three: The Lady Chargers took on #3 Wilmington University, whom they had lost to the day before in their third elimination game of the day.  The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Trembone led off the inning with a single up-the-middle and Haukap followed with the RBI double to left center field for the 1-0 lead.

Dominican added two more runs in the fifth frame when Schwed hit an RBI ground out and Regan followed with a single to right center field to plate a run and give the Lady Chargers the evenutal 3-0 victory to advance them to the Championship.

Larsen got her second win of the day (7-6) striking out four and allowing five hits in seven shut out innings.

The Lady Chargers will need to beat Caldwell University twice tomorrow afternoon to win the conference tournament and earn the conference's automatic bid the NCAA Regionals.  The first game will begin at 12pm on field one at Georgian Court University.  The second game if necessary will follow.
