Orlando, Fla. (2/22/16) The Dominican College softball team lost two games yesterday at the Citrus Classic being played at the Wide World of Sports. DC fell to the University of Illinois-Springfield, 4-3 in nine innings and dropped a 3-1 decision to Queens College.

Orlando, Fla. (2/22/16) The Dominican College softball team lost two games yesterday at the Citrus Classic being played at the Wide World of Sports. DC fell to the University of Illinois-Springfield, 4-3 in nine innings and dropped a 3-1 decision to Queens College.
With the losses, Dominican falls to 1-4 on the season.
Game One: The Lady Chargers struck for two runs in the top of the second inning as Shannon Truppi* (Little Ferry, N.J.) and Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) hit back-to-back RBI singles for the 2-0 advantage.
The Praire Stars tied the game in the bottom of the third inning and the game would remained tied until the top of the ninth inning. With the international tie-breaker rule in place, a runner was placed at second base to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third and Truppi followed with a single to give Dominican the 3-2 edge. In the bottom of the inning UIS was able to score two runs for the win on a two-out single.
Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) suffered the loss in 8 2/3 innings of work, allowing four runs on four hits.
Shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two hits in the loss.
Game Two: Dominican scored first in the nightcap as Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) was hit by-a-pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) who had gotten on-base with a two-out single.
Queens answered back with a three-run fourth inning for the eventual 3-1 win.
Jenna Maska (Suffern, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits.
Regan finished the game with two hits.
Dominican will take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Tuesday evening.
