Lyndhurst, N.J. (3/30/16) The Lady Chargers softball team and host Felician University Golden Falcons split their conference doubleheader this afternoon at Matera Field in Lyndhurst.
Game One: Felician University would narrowly win Game 1 by a score of 1-0. Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, PA) suffered the loss and fell to 8-4 on the season. The Lady Chargers would bounce back and defeat Felician University 9-1 in Game 2.
Game Two: Dominican was trailing Felician 1-0 after the first inning but responded with four runs in the third. In the third junior Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) singled to left to score the first run, which was followed by a one run single by Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and a two run double off the bat of senior Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.). Collins would again connect for a one run single in the fourth. Later in the seventh, DC would strike again with four runs on three hits.
Sophomore pitcher Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) improved to 3-1 on the season after seven innings with five strikeouts and no earned runs.
Senior catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) lead the Lady Chargers with two RBIs on two hits and also scored two runs. Shiebler and Collins would also bat in two runs a-piece.
Dominican now stands at 13-9 overall and 6-1 in CACC play. The Lady Chargers are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host conference foe Caldwell University at 3 & 5 PM on the DC Softball Field.
