SOFTBALL TAKES SWEEP NYACK COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/13/16) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in games played at the DC Softball Field. DC won the opener, 7-1 and took the nightcap, 5-1.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/13/16) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in games played at the DC Softball Field. DC won the opener, 7-1 and took the nightcap, 5-1.
Game One: Dominican scored two runs in the bottom of the first as third basemen Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to bring home a run and shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) followed with an infield single to plate the second run.
The Lady Chargers added two more runs in the third frame on back-to-back RBI bunts from Taylor and Gilligan to increase the lead to 4-0.
DC tacked on three more runs in the fifth as Gilligan laid down another squeeze bunt and Regan followed with a two run single down the left field line for the 7-0 lead. The Warriors scored a run in the top of the seventh for the final 7-1 score.
Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) picked up the complete game victory (12-6), allowing one run on six hits and two strikeouts.
The Lady Charger offense had ten hits in the victory, with four different players collecting two hits each. Regan finished with a team high three RBIs.
Game Two: DC brought home two runs in the second stanza on the RBI double down the left field line from left fielder Brianna Espino (Holland, Ohio) and the RBI triple to right field off the bat of designated player Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.)
Nyack put a run on the board in the sixth, but Dominican countered in the bottom half of the inning as Haukap blasted a two-run home run over the right center field fence for the 5-1 lead and eventual win.
Haukap went 2-4 in the game with three RBIs.
Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) improved to 5-3 with the complete game win, allowing one run on just two hits and recorded eight strikeouts.
With the wins, Dominican improves to 20-13-1 overall and 12-3 in CACC play.
